The Kitchen Table
LOAD Dance Company presents the dance-theatre production The Kitchen Table, with concept, dramaturgy and direction by Tasos Bekiaris.
How does a child grow up surrounded by words, glances and rules that are often spoken out of love, yet become inscribed on the body like commands?
To understand and endure the adult world, the child creates an inner mechanism of its own: a dark Circus. There, roles become distorted, movements repeat themselves and reality is transformed into spectacle. The Circus is not a fantasy; it is the child’s way of giving form to what cannot yet be explained.
Moving from the family environment to the wider social mechanism, the work traces the process through which a person is shaped: how care becomes discipline, how imitation turns into imposition and how, at some point, conflict ceases to come from outside and becomes an inner prison.
The table—a symbol of encounter, dialogue and power—returns again and again, bringing generations together. Not to provide answers, but to illuminate what was said, what remained unspoken and what continues to move the body even after words have disappeared.
The production was presented at Katerina Vassilakou Theatre on 30 June and 1 July 2026, featuring students of LOAD Dance School.
