LOAD DANCE THEATRE
The body does not illustrate. It narrates.
LOAD Dance Theatre is the artistic core of LOAD. It was founded in 2012 by choreographer and dance-theatre director Tasos Bekiaris, with the aim of creating works in which movement does not serve as a supporting element, but functions as an independent form of thought, storytelling and communication.
At the centre of its artistic language is the body as a carrier of experience, memory, relationship and personal position. A body that is not limited to executing form, but observes, responds, resists, transforms and produces meaning.
LOAD’s creations begin with questions drawn from personal and social reality: identity, memory, power, the need to belong, the relationship between the individual and the collective, and the mechanisms that shape the way we perceive ourselves and others.
Contemporary dance, theatre, spoken language, voice, music and the visual environment do not coexist as separate or decorative elements. They contribute equally to a unified dramaturgical and theatrical language in which each element transforms and redefines the others.
Performers are not asked to erase their individual identity behind technique. Technique provides clarity, possibilities and choice, allowing personal experience to be transformed into an organised act of performance.
The personal does not remain a confession, and the social does not become a slogan. Both pass through dramaturgy, composition and the relationship between bodies until they acquire a form that can be communicated to an audience.
LOAD’s productions do not attempt to impose a predetermined message. They create a space of encounter in which audiences can recognise, question or renegotiate something from their own experience.
For LOAD, dance theatre is not simply the coexistence of different art forms. It begins when movement acquires a dramaturgical function and the body stops reproducing form in order to take a position.
To become a body that speaks.
